In the cooperation program with FPT Global Education to support international students with practical internships in Vietnam, on March 11-12, we welcomed and supported 30 students from Belgium to study with CORMIS ❤️ During these two days, the students had time to share and discuss in depth about the topic of fast fashion; sustainable production and consumption; Go on a field trip to learn about the fashion industry in Hoi An and local initiatives to reduce wastes; talk with staff from large and small garment factories to learn about their operations, fabric waste issues and practice collecting fabric wastes along the main roads of Hoi An ancient town. As a result, at the end of the trip, each group was able to carry back 3-4 quite large bags of fabric - overcoming the challenges required in Hoi An. At the end of a hard day, the whole group had a wonderful time relaxing by dancing and sharing about the story of Dork Dancing on mental health. 🕺🕺🕺🕺 We thought collecting fabric in Hoi An would be the biggest challenge for the students on this trip, but the second day at the CORMIS was really a much more interesting day to them. It was interesting because they had to start playing the role of real waste handlers: sitting and sorting piles of fabric waste collected from Hoi An, choosing their favorite piece of discarded fabric (from the pile of trash brought back) to upcycle into products they want to bring home to use. This was also the time that they sat down and talked with disabled women in person, learnt about their life and learnt how to upcycle from them. For many of them, it was the most amazing experience of the trip. The reasons were because of the meaning of the upcycling program, upcycling a product was not as easy as they think, it really takes patience to do this job, it's fun to do upcycling together and finally they had a gift to bring home for their mother (as they said) ❤️❤️❤️ 👏👏👏 The 2-day study tour was not long, but the students had quite many interesting learning experiences with us.
